Oak Bark Carvings
In this section you will find my Oak Bark Carvings. These carvings are in general meant for hanging on internal walls. Some stand on their own. The oak bark is only taken from trees already felled that are approximately 150 years old or more. Each piece is individually named and dated before being coated on the rear with polyurethane varnish to seal the back from moisture.
I do not carve anything in particular into Oak Bark as it's texture does not lend itself to any pre-determined shape. Each piece is so random that whatever gets carved, gets carved. Hence, one day it may be fairy house, the next a face, the next an insect
Some carvings are highlighted with wood stain colouring. Some are just coated to different degrees with polyurethane varnish. When applied to areas worked differently it creates a different effective finish. Some carvings have no finish as I believed it would be detrimental to the final look.
"Yeah Man" - Rasta inspired carving. Approx. 33cm length (13") showing a (half) face coming out from the bark - £ 55
"House On The Hill" - Another stone and wood panelled home billowing with smoke from its chimneys. Oak bark with wood stain colouring. 16" (40cm) long. £65
"A Precarious Path" - A castle that would be hard to breach if you could get to the door in the first place ! Oak bark, wood stain colouring and a touch of polyurethane. Good detail. 15" (39cm) long. £ 55.
"On The Edge" - A derelict tower with a portal to the edge of a precipice ! Oak bark, light polyurethane coating. 14" (36 cm) long. £50.
"Twist" - An Olde Worlde wooden house with it's decorative panelled front. 8.5" (21 cm) long. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. £45.
"Rapunzels Tower" - A door-less tower with a window that has plenty of room to hang your hair from. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 9.5" (24 cm). £25.
"Gable End" - A very cute little cottage with lots of detail including its quirky little door and wood frame gable with smoke gripping the roof as it rises. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 7" (18 cm) long. £ 35.
"Good-Me, Bad-Me Elf" - This is a strange one. Inspired by The Golem. Not for the faint hearted. Comes with a blessing or a curse depending on your true self, so beware ! If you act good and you are truly good it will bring you good luck. If you act good but are really bad it will bring you bad luck ! Only to be bought for yourself and cannot be passed to others without them knowingly taking it. How much do you trust yourself ? Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 9" (23 cm) long. "The Struck Tower" - This was my impression of one of the towers from Lord of The Rings and is one of a pair ( The Other Tower). If not sold soon these will be incorporated together to create a mirror. Oak bark, Wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 40" (102 cm) long. £130.
"The Lodge" - An Olde Worlde type building of stone and timber. Oak bark with wood stain colouring to highlight. 12" (30cm) long. £60
"Undercliff House" - Again one of my favourites. An Olde Worlde house. Streaming smoke, a slightly twisted perspective and great detail. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and a bit of polyurethane. 16" (41cm) long. £65.
"The Gate House" - Smoke comes from the gate house next to the tower, climbing adjacent to a cliff edge ...Oak bark, polyurethane coating. 17" (43 cm) long, 7" (17 cm wide). £55
"Hole In The Korner" - A secret hideout hidden in the rocks, thatched roof an' all ! Oak bark, wood stain and polyurethane. 10" (25 cm) long. £40.
"The Smoke House" - Something straight from Lord of the Rings world. A house that billows with smoke from all its crevices. Looks like the roof caught fire too some time. 12" (31 cm) long. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. £40.
"Wizards Hole" - Another of my new ventures. A self standing little carving reminiscent of a wizards hat with it's crooked spire and corner chimney. Very Lord of the Rings lol ! Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 5" (13 cm) high. £20.
"All Along The Watchtower" - A classic fairytale tower. Tall, slim and over hanging where only fantasy castles can. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 21" (53 cm) long. £65.
"Home" - One of my new ventures, making little minature carvings. This one is 5.5" (14cm) long. Oak bark with wood stain colouring. £25
"from Maya Lintel, Temple IV, Tikhal" - This carving is based on wooden carved lintels found at Tikhal, Guatamala. Oak bark. Natural. 15.5" (39cm). £50
"Pointer" - A tower that Rapunzel might have been kept in. Oak bark, wood stained and polyurethane coated to different degrees.16" (41cm) long. £50.
" A Wood-Nymphs Cottage" - A twisted little stone cottage with it's tall pointed roof and billowing chimney. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 9" (23 cm) long. £50
"Watchtower" - A semi-derelict tower a the top of a cliff to see in all directions. 14" (36 cm) long.Oak bark, polyurethane coating. £40.
"No Escape" - A tower with all the windows shut tight, it's red chimney billowing smoke. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 10.5" (27 cm) long. £25.
"(No) Escape 2" - OK, not thinking and did two same name towers (lol !). A barred and shuttered tower with a roof door to . . .? Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 9" (23 cm) long. £25.
"The Home" - A beautiful home of stone and wood with a strong door and stoked up fire billowing a cloud of smoke over the roof. One of my favourites. Oak bark, wood stain colouring and polyurethane. 19" (49 cm) long. £130.
